Saw you the other night for the third time in Kansas City. You put on a great show. But, I have to say, all the schtick was the same as last year. I know you can't come up with a complete set of new songs each year, but the antics and patter with your fellow musicians, your jokes, your "improvisational bits" need to change. Otherwise for your dedicated fans, we might as well tape your show on our iPhone and just stay home and save the $112.
Come on dude. Show us some respect. Give us a reason to see you more than once.

Wow! That was harsh. I wish more people would realize that Stephen's not a comedian. He's said so countless times. Not to mention the fact that people have been posting his shows on YouTube for years, so if you've watched any clips you know what's coming. The banter is simply there to fill the spaces between the songs. Of course, everyone's entitled to an opinion. If I may quote an episode of Family Guy: "Well, while I don't agree with what you have to say, I'll defend to the death your right to say it." PS: We gave him two standing ovations at Foxwoods. Again, I'm not knocking you. I'm just sayin'......

The pace of obsolescence is so fast these days. Dean Martin did the same stage patter for decades. Dolly Parton has been telling the same stories and jokes in her shows forever.

;D FINALLY! This forum was getting a bit empty! Well put, philjohnson. Too bad the discussion was initiated by such a negative... "review".

OH, AND ANOTHER THING! Sorry! I'm not trying to be belligerent. I'm on a roll. How many times has Stephen felt compelled to say "I am Jesus........ F%#*" or "... I'll bring out the kid in you!" or dozens of other repeated come backs in order to appease his audience? Again, this is not an attack. However, I don't think it's fair to criticize the guy for utilizing a script in some parts of the show. That's my two cents, for what it's worth.

For what it's worth, the show this past Wednesday in Philly was a new set. 5 new songs, some oldies that haven't been played in a while, and somewhat new banter. You'll notice that Stephen hasn't played a lot of shows this past year as he'd already played most markets on the 3 Balloons tour. So when he's between albums and plays a casino or college in a market he's already played on that tour, you're going to get a show that's very similar to the last one. He'll have a new CD next year and will do a nationwide tour with the new set. Have faith and keep it real! Thanks.

Perhaps my headline was harsh, but artists need feedback, both positive and negative (and honest). The fact that I've seen him so many times should stand as evidence that I enjoy his act immensely. I would argue that while he is in fact a talented musician, he is more accurately described a comedian. And, if he wants to keep filling the larger venues, then he needs to keep it fresh. That's just the reality of entertainment today.

I'm afraid you're mistaken, ironhorsetamer. Stephen's more of a musician than a comedian-- as he's stated many times. If you've ever listened to or read any of his interviews, you would know that. Yes, I've only seen him once, but it's the clever lyrics and that unbelievable voice of his that has me waiting for the next opportunity to see Stephen perform. As always, I wish everyone here Peace, Joy, Prosperity, and I hope your love doesn't love the Jersey Shore! PS: Sorry to sound like a nut-buster, but I just had to modify my signature to drive my point home. (It's a direct quote from our beloved Stephen from an interview you should check out on YouTube. No hard feelings I hope!) ;D

WoW! My 1st post...
Anyway, I would be Thrilled if Stephen ever came back to SLC... Tired & Lame or Not.
I believe he was here once before, but (head hung low) I didn't know who he was then. Now I'd be first in line to buy tickets.

Hello and welcome! I like your moniker. I hope you enjoyed the responses! (Actually the only thing that's lame about this thread is its title!)
